How long is a Japanese Obi?
I am making my first kimono and I'm very confused on the pattern. I have finished the kimono from just the picture. But how long is the Obi suppose to be? The pattern does not tell me and I have found too many stuff online that still leaves me unsure. The kimono is made out of cotton, since this is just a casual one. So I need to know for a casual cotton kimono how long should the obi be? How many times should it wrap around me?

- do a triditiona rode wit the harpuni flowers.
- Looks like obi's length varies, depending on wearer's sizes. I suppose if the pattern doesn't mention the specific length , it is not very important. Japanese people are tend to be smaller than westerners, so it should be longer than the Japanese standard anyway. Why don't you try the longest first? If it is too long, cut it as you please. How many times should it wrap around you? 2 or 3 times.
- By casual cotton kimono I assume you actually mean yukata? If so, the typical measurements for a hanhaba obi to be worn with yukata is 14-16cm wide and 3.5 meters long. Every so often you find one a bit shorter, and you can sometimes find extra-long ones that are 4.5 meters long (or perhaps a bit more). You need enough obi to wrap around your body twice while still leaving enough to tie it properly.
