How are girls treated in modern Japanese culture? I am assisting my first grade daughter with her project for girl scouts. They are representing Japan in a community-wide taste of the world exhibit. If you know anything about Japanese girl scouts that would be bonus!!
Any good fiction novels with Japanese history or culture? I am always intrigued by Japanese history and Japanese modern culture. I'm really more of a fiction fan then a history buff, so I was wondering if there are any fiction novels with a little history or even a good book set in modern day Japan? (I've read Memoirs of a Geisha and I'm a big fan of Anime and Manga)

Modern Japanese culture help!? I'm going to Japan in a couple of months for a school project. I need to know everything I can about Japan so I do not accidentally offend anyone. I need to know about food, how to eat the food, what to do in a resteraunt... sleeping, talking with the family (they will know a little English)... anything from restrooms to ettiquite to laws. I need to know about some laws and airports. You can just give me a very good site. I do not need to know anything about the geography of Japan. I know all about that. Please help me. I don't want to go to Japan and look like some weirdo. I want to represent my country in a good way. I want to be as polite as humanly possible over there. :) Thanks in advance. If you know a lot about Japan, here's an easy 10 points for you.
should japanese culture change because of the emphasis on prostitution? i'm writing a research paper on this topic and i'm having a hard time finding reliable sources. I want to make the connection between the tayus (high class prostitutes who most people think are called geisha) and modern culture, which is big on child pornography and prostitution. please help me with sources! thanks!
Anyone know any good Japanese authors or titles? I have read some Ryu Murakami, Natsuo Kirino and some Haruki Murakami. I really enjoy the use of language (although this may be to do with the translators?) and the atmosphere the writers convey. Also it is quite ineteresting learning about modern Japanese culture and its darker side... Can you suggest any other authors or particular titles?
Japanese culture project??? Ok so I am doing a project on Japanese culture. I need resources for modern japanese culture and Japanese culture from the past. Thanks.

Do modern culture majors exist? I have narrowed down what I would like to major in when I am in college, and I'm sure that I would like to participate in something that has to do with world cultures, or even international business. I know that I would prefer being involved in modern culture, rather than cultures of the past, but I don't know if this is an actual degree. Is there an actual degree in modern culture? If so, which colleges in the United States would be best to go to? If I were to select a specific area to study modern culture, I would choose either european or japanese modern culture. Thanks a lot, everyone!
Samurai affected Japanese society/culture? I'm doing a paper in my history class about how the samurai have affected modern Japanese society/culture. Right now I have: i) Philosophy/Ethics - (ie: Bushido, loyalty to superiors) ii) Art (ie: The story of the 47 Ronin are popular in TV, plays, and works of art) I still need a 3rd area that they influenced. Can anyone give me a few things they think are good? Thanks in advance!
Japanese or Korean Language/Culture? Given the choice between learning either of the two languages, which would you choose and why? I'm trying to decide which to take for my undergraduate language requirement and I'm having some difficulty deciding. I've always admired Japanese culture, but I'm thinking about going into medical research and I know how developed South Korea is in that field. I don't mean to seem ignorant, but I also don't know much about South Korean culture (modern or otherwise). So, if you could, would you mind also describing South Korean culture in terms of its similarities to Japanese and American cultures (mostly pop culture)? Thank you so much for your help, any honest comments/thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a website that sells authentic Japanese clothing? I really love Japanese culture, and I want some authentic Japanese clothes. I was wondering if there is a website that imports Japanese kimonos and modern-day Japanese clothing directly from Japan to USA. I would like to know what they are.
help with Japanese speech? okayy I need help writing an introduction for my Japanese speech. how can I say... I investigated modern Japanese culture . I researched today's music, anime & fashion in Japan.
Where did Japanese people come from? I am researching and writing a thesis on the orgins of Japanese people for a college class. While I am not going to base anything I write off things i read here, I am still very interested in what people think. as far as my research goes, this is what i concluded. It is known that Kyushu was where the Wa, or proto-modern Japanese, culture originated. Sometime between 0-200 AD the Wa states emerged and consolidated power in Kyushu and the southern parts of Honshu. Korean texts mention Wa peoples coming to raid the coasts as early as around 4th century AD. The Gwanggaeto Stele, a historical texrt issued by Korean king Jangsu states, In the ninth year, kihae, of Yongnak [ A.D. 399], Paekchan [Paekche], in violation of its sworn oath, concluded a peace with the Wa. The king responded by making a tour down to P'yonyang, where an envoy sent from Silla reported to him, saying "The Wa people have filled our territory and are overwhelming and smashing our walls and moats. Since, as slave-guests, we have become your subject people, we take refuge in Your Majesty and ask for your command." The great king in his benevolence praised the sincerity of their loyalty and sent the envoy home to impart [a secret plan] to the Silla king." This was the early stage of Korean-Chinese-Japanese relations. Several hundred years passed and Wa had consolidated into the Yamato State by the 400's. Legendary Japanese hero Yamato Takeru was an early price of the Yamato state. He was responsible for assasinating the leader of one Yamatos enemies, the barbarian state of Kumaso on souther Kyushu. After conquering the Kumaso, the Yamato expanded their empire east and to the north conquering the other Wa cultures like the Izumo and Ezo. By early 600's Chinese culture had reached Yamato from Wei. Buddhism was introduced and fought Shinto for the dominance of Japan. Prince Shotoku helped Buddhism beocme the dominant religion and the Taika reform. The said text in addition to others state that the Yamato had established a fort or territory in a small resource rich region of Souther Korea. Sandwhiched between the Korean kingdoms of Silla and Paekje was the Japanese colony of Mimana (Gaya in Korean) which has existed since early 100-200;s. Yamato gained mainland technology and influences through this fort colony. The neighboring kingdom of Paekje was at war with Goryeo to the north and Silla to the east so they allied themselves with Yamato. For two hundred years from 400 -660 the Japanese gained and enjoyed Chinese court culture, technology and Buddhism. However in 660 Silla, Goryeo, and Tang China decided to gang up on Paekje and split Korea between themselves. THeir armies marched into Baekje and defeated the korean kingdom. The Baekje royalty escaped to their Yamato allies and requested aid. The Japanese realized that Korea was their link to the more sophisticated mainland and were very invested in their colony of Gaya and their korean allies Baekje. Yamato sent 30,000 men in a navy to Korea to take back the captured territories. Japan at this point was still a developing state only a few centuries out of the stone ages....their armies lacked any cohesion or unit tactics and probably weilded a random assortment of weapons made of bronze or iron. The chinese and koreans had already developed steel and more sophisticated militaries and cultures and utterly crushed the mob of Japanese armies. Ater this Yamato retreated back to its islands and went wide form reform called the Taikia Reform. Military and government changed to mimic the Tang system. This is when true modern Japanese culture is born. Bushi or samurai first emerge as merely servants or attendants of pwoerful japanese clans/families. They were often low rank. they were the orgins of the samurai, armed retainers. The japanese expanded uppward toward Honshu and fought the local Emishi tribes in the 5th -9th centuries. After the conquest of the Japanese islands was complete (minus Hokkaido) the Japanese flourished culturally and developed their own unique culture, an offshoot of Tang Chinese culture. This was the Heian period, classical Japan, comparable to medieval Europe with court culture and samurai/knights. After this im pretty sure most ppl know what happened, seeing as we are all in a Japanese group! what do you think happened? This is just what I concluded from researching for weeks
.Japanese culture (:? I'm starting to save money so that I can go to Japan after my Senior year, but I don't want to be one of those oh-so-typical tourists. You know, the kind that don't know some of the most important parts of the culture, or even things like chewing gum in public. Do any of you have up to date sites that have a lot of information on Japanese cultures, as well as modern lifestyles? (:
What would you say is an icon of Japanese culture? I need to do a presentation on something that is indicative or important in modern Japan ,irrelevant of, but preferably with a past history in Japan. Please do not suggest manga or anime because I don't feel like doing that even though I am a fan.
Where can i find private japanese tutors in Manila, philippines? Hey guys, i am here to ask a question in place of my father. We're living in the philippines as an expat family, we're off japanese/taiwanese descent and carry a full american background. My parents are worried about me and my siblings abilities in our chinese and japanese areas (chinese has been taken care of) and so were are looking for japanese tutors that are available in Manila, Philippines, specifically the fort bonifacio area. The teacher has to be able to; -teach the language and history through different methods (flexibility) and must be able to communicate through either english or chinese. -Has an interest in contemporary modern culture (japanese modern/traditional culture) - to capture the interests of my younger siblings. -Has an interest in anime or manga (optional) -Young, female or male doesn't matter. My father is offering quite a decent wage, and we've looked through the japanese embassy and the manila japanese school but have yet to find any teachers, could we have some advice on where to look more efficiently? thanks.
How would you describe modern (mainland) Chinese culture? I want to know more than Taiwanese movies and music, protect the CCP, and anti-Japanese sentiment. There has to be something else... is there? P.S. Please don't be offended. I know many Chinese and these things are all I have heard about. I know it sounds weird, but I"m just trying to find something good about Chinese mainland culture. What are some good, fun things about it?

Modern and Traditional Japanese music? I am doing a presentation on the culture of Japan for school, and I was hoping to include music in it. Could someone recommend me to good traditional and modern Japanese music (I wanted examples of both, if possible). Rap, pop, classical, etc... In particular, I haven't been able to find any traditional Japanese music or rap songs. Also, if you have any things I could add to my presentation that you think would make it better, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
About History of the Japanese Ainu of Hokkinawa Island...? Since the Ainu history is not written and is spread only by mouth to ear from generation to generation, and that actually only 20 of them speaking their original tongue are still alive today (the Japanese (chinese decent) has forced their population to speak modern japanese in place of their ancestral language), then how it will be possible to save their history? Does anybody have heard about new study suggesting that they were the REAL Samourai, and most of the Japanese culture as evolved around theirs (the Ainu arrived in Japan about 30000 years ago while the modern Japanese arrived in 600B.C only)? Edit: Their history has never been recorded in any ways! The Japanese government only seek to supress it... Look like it could be embarrasing for them I guess... And I can't see many that can translate their history either... Who can speek Ainu today?
What is a good Honours Thesis topic in Japanese studies? I need a powerful and interesting topic to graduate with honours next year. I have decided to a translations piece which requires me to translate a book and then talk about the book with relevence to modern Japanese society. I am very much intrigued by dark sub-cultures in Japan, like internet suicide, hikikomori, etc,. Or even if it's a book that you've read in Japanese that hasn't been translated into English yet, please let me know! Thank you !
How can a straight male dress more effeminate that looks contemporary, modern, fashionable and intellectual? How can a straight male dress more effeminate that looks contemporary, modern, fashionable and intellectual. I am 6 feet I am thin, I have median length hair that covers the top part of my eyes. I have very fashionable Vouge black plastic glasses that have some white in them to make them pop up from others people and have wide templates. I am trying to lose about 10 more pounds just so I can look a little more feminine. I am timid and shy.. I like to have females friends and gay friends just because they are a tad more intellectual and understanding times, and I just like the way their personalities they are and the kind of music they listen to. Now with what I said above.. I want to add a flair of Japanese culture into the style above. I have 1,300 to spend on new clothes and I don't know what to do..

Haruki Murakami and other Japanese literature? Questions...? After seeing an autobiographical essay of his in the New Yorker a few days ago, I immediately ran to the library and picked up Murakami's 'after the quake', a collection of his short stories. His writing is really intriguing, I am thoroughly enjoying myself reading it. I would like to know more about his work/other great Japanese literature, both modern and classic. I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture and would be interested in spending some time this summer really delving into their literature.
Massive Japanese Help ... ? I wish to learn Japanese because I will be taking a trip to Tokyo this coming summer, and the only means of me learning anything is off the internet ... Right now i need to learn some background information about the Japanese culture (traditional and modern), as well as stuff like Kanji and those other sections of the Japanese language. Lol You may also give me any other advice, as that is happily appreciated and any websites that you know of that are good for beginner Japanese learners ^_^
chinese, american, spanish, japanese, korean culture and etiquettes? i am interested on knowing the culture, manners and etiquettes of these countries, particularly regarding business, what do they do actually in their idle time, where do they usually hang out, drink, games they play (cards), anything traditional in their custom and modern too... what really makes them comfortable.... please no anything nonsense....
Am i a wapanese/weeaboo? I know that weeaboo/wapanese is a derogatory term used to people (not just white people) who is obsessed with anything connected with japan, mostly anime/manga. I am asian and i do love Japan and their culture. But not just Japan. I also love other countries to the point that i've stepped into their soils with Japan being next in my list. I do want to visit japan to learn about their real culture, trains and some sight-seeing, but i'd also like to buy some anime stuff and visit places that are related to some anime shows. I do love anime/manga and in fact, that was the starting point for me to like Japan but not to the extent of doing japanglish (mixing up of english/native language and japanese) and that didn't influence my work/grades but i do admit, i love buying some stuffs and snacks just for the sake of enjoyment and to satisfy my curiosity. Also There's one time i roughly sketched an "itasha" design that would fit in my car. but the "project" didn't push through for obvious reasons. I do love some japanese music, mostly jTrance (some albums by exit trance, iosys, redalice, etc.) and some jPop. All in all, Anime/Manga and Modern Japanese Culture is something I really love but I don't think that I take it as far as being "wapanese". I understand that not all people like it, but there are some people hate it too much that they are going out of their way to make fun of anime fans. So am I a wapanese/weeaboo that people will point at and ridicule? Your opinions would be very helpful.

How can Africa regain it's cultures/self esteem in our modern world? Most African leaders are into looting and heading west to developed countries with their loots. The western developed world are not that morally clean by allowing these African sell out "leaders" to steal their countries' wealth to the west. The culture of immorality has replaced the old culture of unity, morality and restrains etc. Shouldn't Africans be getting back to their cultures(religions, morality etc) instead of western imported cultures? Aren't other like Indians, Chinese and Japanese are doing just that?
what does a traditional Japanese lantern look like and what are its basic traits? i'm doing a work on the Akari lanterns designed my Isamu Noguchi in the 50's and i am trying to compare them to traditional Japanese ones but the searches on the internet often show modern interpretations and not actual traditional ones...so if someone can help, and explain a bit the culture and some traits about this subject it would be really cool. any info relating to the subject is very valuable to me.
Just out of curiosity.......? I've been reading a lot about Japanese modern culture and how the country's different from the US, and there were things they do I thought was strange (i.e. having slippers for the bathroom.) Any way, I was wondering what Americans do that the Japanese find weird? Arigato Gozaimasu! I would like to add that I'm not asking about why they put on special bathroom slippers, I want to know what Americans do that the Japanese think is strange
Japanese Movie/documentary? Im interested in the Japanese culture and would like to watch something about modern Japan ( not action/or anime) Memoirs of a Geisha was great, but its not about modern times....thanks
Anyone who knows Japanese? Could you, please, translate it into Japanese and write it in Hiragana? (I don't need romaji) "Let's see... I love a lot of things about Japan, not just one. I like how its history and modern times are interwined together. I like Japanese people, their manners. I adore the Japanese language itself. And (it might be a stereotype), but I like how Japanese culture teaches one to see beauty in everything. I like how the Japanese treasure their culture. And my dream is to wear a yukata and to attend a festival!" Thank you! No no, I'm not lying about my language fluency. On the contrary, I've already told that person that my Japanese is at the beginner's level right now and that this part of the message was translated by another person. (I've actually managed to write part of the message myself). It's just penpaling. that person has problems with understanding English, so she asked me in Japanese.
Japanese Major or East Asian Studies? I am having trouble deciding whether East Asian Studies or Japanese is a major choice for me I want to couple it with an international business major so I can open up new career opportunities for myself. Anyway, I have a huge interest in Japan, but I am also interested in the rest of East Asia. Their cultural traditions, history, modern culture all fascinate me, but I am afraid East Asian studies major is too thinly spread and I will learn a smattering from a lot of things without ever becoming knowledgeable in one thing. I feel this is essential that one has a specialty when trying to find their niche in the job force. Do I have the wrong idea? I love Japan first and foremost (I am already in my 4th year of the language and I've been there twice, once on a homestay), so I was thinking of majoring in it and then taking elective classes to satisfy my interests in other East Asian countries and cultures. Do you think I have the right idea, or do you think I should pick East Asian Studies instead?

Learn Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, or Hindi? Please take the time to read the entire details area. I'm currently a double major in finance & accounting with a minor in hospitality management. I honestly don't know what I am going to do yet but it is obviously going to have something to do with accounting and/or finance in a corporate environment and I want a language that will help me with getting and excelling at a job. I have the chance to study abroad in one of three places and I want to learn the language that corresponds. Here are the various choices and corresponding situations/details. Any well thought out advice is greatly appreciated. -All three schools are well respected and advanced in education and I am getting a wealth of scholarships to help in funding a majority of costs. 1. Pondicherry, India @ IISAC http://www.semesterinindia.org/ - it will be easy to get course credit transfered from here, it is very affordable, their website is extremely informative, India is very dirty, . Most people in India speak English so Hindi may not be as much of an asset. 2. Shanghai, China @ ECNU http://english.ecnu.edu.cn/ -it will be more difficult to get credits transferred from here, very affordable, nice looking but not informative website, Shanghai is polluted. Mandarin seems to be the most in demand language and therefore would be the largest asset but take into account all the details and situations before you advise me to choose this. 3. Tokyo, Japan @ ICU http://www.icu.ac.jp/index_e.html -I am hands down most interested in Japanese culture, great non polluted environment, fresh/healthy food, very expensive, very modern school, same difficulty in transferring credits as China, very informative website, Mandarin is also taught here. Japanese seems valuable as a language but not nearly as much as Mandarin and Hindi but the biggest factor at this school is that the school/living costs here are almost twice as expensive as the other two.
I heard a Japanese word said to the English ear as Two Coo or Two Coup? I've been told in the past no such sound as English sound of "2" (two) in Japanese sounds. Yet, word was said many times and many times identified as being Japanese. It was plainly stated, as well. So, no error in reproduction has occurred even though the "sounds like" approach is not preferred in translations. Here I can with 100% reliable accuracy give the correct sound of the word. Don't know its definition, if it is slang, modern Japanese, or even ancient Japanese or a Japanese dialect. Some speculate that the Maori people use a word that is "tuku" that sounds EXACTLY like that which I heard; however, it may or may not originate from Japan....sources were uncertain. I was told many Maori words came from Japan and from other Pacific Island cultures. Anyway, to the English ear it sounds like Two Coo ("Two" as the English number 2 and "Coo" as the baby or dove sounds) or, alternately, Two Coup (again, English number 2 and "Coup" as in the indian counting coup in war). Thanks.
A few questions about Japanese rule in Palau? Firstly, I don't know that much about Palau, except for the fact it's a soverign island nation with it's own unique culture and heritage. For a long time, it was subject to Japanese rule, and I understand the Japanese during their rule did a lot for the Palauan and development of the nation. My question is, how have the Japanese left their mark on Palau? If one visits Palau, is there any evidence of Japanese rule to be clearly seen, such as architechture, vehicles, etc? Also, how commonly used is Japanese in Palau as a second language, do many people speak it? Also, are the people, especially the older people influenced by Japanese culture in anyway? Japan is a country with a rigiorous social structure and formailities and this is clear in the Japanese language where the sentence can be very different depending on level of formality. Is there any evidence of this in Palau? Also, in modern day Palau, how are diplomatic relations with Japan, and also what view do normal Palauan citizens hold of the Japanese? For example, a lot of the ex-British colonies know quite a lot about the UK, and it's whole system. Do Palauans know much about Japan, is it a place they like/would like to visit, in general? Thanks for any insight.
Which asian culture is more appealing to the western mindset? I am right now learning German, and I estimate it will take me another year before I develop basic fluency. I am right now interested in two follow up langauges. Chinese and Japanese. Which language would allow me to enjoy more cultural benefits that are modern. I don't believe in skipping the writing so that would have to be taken into consideration. If I am going to learn a Asian langauge, I want to be literate as well in it. Japanese Anime comes to mind, but what about Chinese.
Japanophiles, did you know that Ancient Japan imitated Tang Dynasty China? Being a anthropology major and history nerd. I can tell you that Japan's culture is what it is today because of Tang Dynasty China. Even the Samurai's studied Zen Buddism (a branch of buddhism came from Taoism) and their language used to have A LOT OF Hanji characters and pronunciations. The modern Japanese are trying to have less and less Chinese words by using more hiragana and katakana but ancient Japan was basically an imitation of China.
Japanese people are a mix of Polynesians and Koreans, and so is their language? I've heard a theory that the royal family of Japan comes from the defeated royal family of Baekje. According to this theory the royal family fled the Korean peninsula, and eventually conquered Japan. Who was living in Japan at the time? Polynesians. Since polynesians have a much more limited set of consonants and vowels this changed the language. Having polynesians try to speak Korean changed the language also rid the language of it's vowel harmony and cross syllable assimilation. This would explain why Japanese has basically the same restricted number of sounds that Hawaiian does, with a grammar that is similar to Korean grammar - and yet very few words (other than borrowed Chinese words) sound the same. Supposedly, the Japanese Royal family has secret ceremonies (i.e. when the prince becomes king) using ancient Baekje documents. Only they would know the truth about this, and they're not talking. During the Japanese occupation of Korea, prior to World War II, the Japanese declared that Korean was merely "a degenerate form of Japanese", and forced all Koreans to take Japanese names, to speak only Japanese, and forbid the use of Korean language and Korean culture. Japanese scholars of this period wrote books and papers that documented all the evidence that the Korean language is related to the Japanese language, and the Korean people are related (but inferior) to the Japanese. After Korean independance, the official Japanese position was that Japanese was a language isolate. Somehow all the Japanese scholarly work of the colonial period was forgotten. Japanese origins were either directly from heaven,or directly from China, or other fanciful stories - like one I heard about Japanese possibly coming from an errant Viking boat. Being derived from Koreans or Polynesians was unthinkable. Modern DNA testing has shown that the two most closely related groups of people in the world are the Jews and Arabs in Israel, and Koreans and Japanese. What do you guys think? To Thijs: This kind of propaganda exists all over the world. The History classes I had in Canada were all about how great Canada is and how much it contributed to the world through the history. It's all a matter of perspectives, and it's normal that people from a country want to be proud of being from that country. The same thing happens in America, in Europe, etc. It's quite easy to only look at things from a single point of view. Americans raped Vietnamese womens during the Vietnam war, they raped Korean and Japanese womens during the World War II, etc. They also contributed a lot to the society, but if one decides to concentrate on the bad things it's very easy to change people's opinion through this one-sided perspective. Almost every nations in the world do the same thing, not only China.

What are some different military ranks for other cultures / fiction (Non-US based)? I'm trying to write a science fiction story that uses military ranks other than the typical ones used in modern day war, like General, Colonel, Captain, etc. To that end, I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere where I could lookup military ranks as named by other cultures (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) or possibly onces used in fiction or popular mythos, just to give me an idea. Thanks.
Japanese A Level Question? Hello, I'm currently studying my A Levels at Newcastle College. I'm taking Psychology, English Language, ICT and Communication&Culture. I've been learning Japanese in my spare time, as a hobby, for about 5 years. I would say my level is high beginner, without any formal intuition. I plan on either applying for a Japanese University, or taking Japanese at an English University. But reading University websites, it seems that an A Level in a Modern Language or Japanese is "preferred but not essential." For some stupid reason, I didn't take a language at GCSE nor A Level, so I'm worried about my chances. Unfortunately, my college doesn't offer Japanese at AS Level. I was wondering if there would be any way for me to get an A Level in Japanese, before University. I was also wondering about finding a Japanese tutor. This may be hard though as Japanese is not really a known language here in Newcastle, with Chinese being a lot more common. I'm also considering the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) as that's a more internationally noticed qualification. It seems taking the JLPT would be a lot more simple than trying to get an A Level in Japanese. I imagine with a lot more serious study, I could maybe apply for JLPT 2, but at my current level, JLPT 3 seems a more realistic goal. So does anyone have any advice, experience or suggestions? All is welcome. Thankyou in advance. :)
I hate the Japanese? But it is not a racial hate it is more of the fact a hate the modern culture. though youre old culture is more sterotypical but it is more respectable then the weird perverse image you send out. did you even read my queation I dont hate the japanese people i hate there modern culture
Looking for info on cultural differences for women in Japan vs USA? Looking for info on modern (21st century) Japanese culture vs l. For example: 1. Comparing Japan and the USA, are there any differences in the way women/girls dress? 2. Do Japanese girls all have to wear the uniforms seen in so many photos? 3. How are women/girls treated in Japanese culture by the men nowadays? 4. Are Japanese women expected to stay home and be housewives and mothers or is it accepted that many will pursue careers? 5. Are there any differences in career choices for women in Japan vs USA? 6. Can girls choose the classes they want to take, or is their curriculum pre-determined? 7. If the classes are pre-determined, what types of classes are being chosen for the students and why? 8. Japanese women are usually viewed as polite and mild-mannered. If someone was just the opposite bc, how would they be viewed/treated by the rest of the population? Thanks
When did Haiku Develop? & Other Japan related Q's? 1.) When did Haiku Develop? 2.) Describe how Japanese Culture blends traditional and Modern influences. 3.) What aspects of Japanese culture are popular in the United States today? 4.) Define Shinto. :]
Another Japanese translation...? Could anyone translate this into Japanese please? Preferably a native speaker. I know it's a lot to ask, so if you don't have time please just translate any part of it! I'll be compiling answers. (fyi, I can read Japanese but am not nearly skilled enough to translate something like this. So basically, I can double-check the translations just to make sure they at least make sense) I'm creating it as notes to a talk I'll be giving at various Japanese high schools and would appreciate Japanese translation of the notes for the students along with the English text. ------------------------------------------ When we talk about American culture, we must talk about immigration. America is a nation of immigrants. America has been famously called a "melting pot," but the anology does not always hold true. It's racial and ethnic groups do not always mix - instead creating something more like a "salad bowl" where each group is unique but makes up one part of a whole. While it's sad, America's native cultures have been almost wiped out. Immigrants from around the world have replaced them. So today, we're going to focus on the dominant cultures in modern America. Today, there are over 300,000,000 Americans which makes up about 4.5% of the world's total population. Of these Americans, 31,000,000 live in New York or Los Angeles. So roughly 1 in 10 Americans live in one of these two cities - which is why we see them so much in movies. But we're not going to talk about them. We're going to talk about the other 90% of Americans who are spread throughout the fourth largest country in the world. Now lets talk about race, ethnicity, and ancestry. America as a whole has a very diverse ancestral makeup. Lets take a look. Out of 100 Americans, 15 people are of German ancestry. 10 people are of Irish ancestry. 9 people are of African American ancestry. 9 people are of English ancestry. 7 people are of Mexican ancestry. 5 people are of Italian ancestry. 3 people are of French ancestry. 2 people are of Native American ancestry. 1 person is of Japanese ancestry. These make up about 60% of Americans. The remaining 40% are from a scattering of countries around the world. Another important factor in shaping our culture is religion. Different religions bring with them a different set of morals, food, music, literature, and ways of life. America has long been a destination for religious immigrants. These immigrant communities have made large impacts on the cultures of regions.
could we all be descended from the japanese? ? i have read that we, meaning everyone in the modern world, are all descended from most of earth's population around 700-800 A.D., i know a lot of people love japan and it's culture, so, would it be fair to say all modern world-living people have japanese ancestry?

Is it true that the Japanese and Koreans all secretly want to be Chinese? When it comes to culture and history. No East Asian country can compare. I was reading some materials wrriten by some ancient Japanese warriors about how to live a healthy life and they were quoting the Chinese classics on medicine left to right. And they were all fans of Confucius and Lao Tzu and Sun Tzu. Sure Japan and South Korea became industrialized wayyyy before modern China but in terms of history and culture I'm sure all the Japanese and Koreans all secretly want to be Chinese. hahaha you guys don't know anything. I bet all of you are Japanophiles who don't know anything about the East Asian cultures besides Sushi and Pokemon and Hello kitty.
are we like the japanese? I lived in japan for all of my HS career and I've noticed that they incorperate a lot of their history into entertainment the ninja turtls are based off of the japanese turtle demon called a Kappa the crow people from power rangers are based off of the crow demon called a tengu even with current shows I watched a show called NARUTO and they haved historical characters references such as orochimaru(snake ninja) jiraiya(toad ninja) and in many older chartoons they use the names of japanes warlords from the past like jubei, or oda nobunaga do you knoe of any other culture that use their myths in modern cartoons for example, marvel uses Dracula, and thor which are european mythical beings I'm a 21yr man that watches cartoons cause I'm studying to be a cartoonist critical reading skills people please. My choice to mention the Marvel corperation which is an american company lets you knoe that I am an american and I am asking about Japan compared to america in regaurds to the cartoons that we make I am asking do american cartoons use historical and cultural references. but I do appreciate those who have attmepted to answer Marc E this is only asking about the character and plot selection for animated comics Thank you karin and Missbean you are the only ones that read the question before answering I am not asking if any other cultures use japanese myths I'm asking if any others use their own american -use european, or naitive american chinese -use chinese mexican use spanish or mayan
Japanese Natives, can I get some information? What are the people in Japan like? I already know a lot about the Japanese culture. I've been studying it for years. I'm not very fluent in Japan, I understand the basic and common sayings, though. How do the people respond to other raced tourist. Seeing as to how the group i'm traveling in has multiple races in it. I'm not really concerned too much about racism though. I have plenty of Asian Australian friends my girlfriend being one. They are nowhere near racist. Though Japan is a very crowded over-populated city. So everyone is not the same. Also what are some streets I should visit. To find the modern day japanese figures, Anime, & Manga? Buildings, art, etc? I'm leaving for my trip in roughly one month. Thank you. <3
Why is it in anime that people like dubbed??? I remember when I lived in Japan, I saw Akira and Vampire Hunter D in Japanese first. And years later saw them dubbed in English. I noticed that they lose so much of the meaning of the words. And notice some of the modern day anime are based on Japanese culture and history. Hearing them dubbed makes no sense. They did a good job on "Cowboy Bebop"! But when you dub these anime, they kinna suck. The brand new animes now are more western and take place in Europe or USA. Now I can see the reason for dubbing then. What is it that dubbing does for you? Are you too lazy to read subtitles? It sounds cooler in Japanese, heck even in Russian or something like that. Tell me what you think! Thanks
Major differences between Koreans, Japanese and Chinese.? lets be honest and level headed. Chinese are mixed between many different tribes. They all speak Chinese and eat Chinese food. Koreans absorbed many tribes living in Manchuria and Siberia during ( Ko-Chosun, Korguryo, Paekje, Shilla, Kaya) Kingdoms. Koreans had many wars in the past with China, Monghol, Japanese( Chosun Dynasty). In the end they are all Koreans. Speak Korean and eat Korean food. Japanese are mixed between Koreans and Ainu. In the end they speak Japanese and eat Japanese food. Koreans are homogenous regarding too language and culture. It is really amazing that Koreans had so many wars in the past but still Koreans ( Koryo People or Chosun People) exist in modern world ( 82 million Koreans). What is Korean history and Korean nationalism? Like past, present, and future what forms Korean identity it always has been not becoming " chinese," "monghol", " japanese", "russian, and " American". Thats Korean ethnocentrism and Korean racial identity. Not to be absorbed by China.
Which language should I take? ? I'm a freshmen in highschool, female. I need to take 2 years of language to graduate. At our school, they offer Spanish, German, and French. At a nearby college, they offer many, many other language courses, but at a much more difficult level (btw, I can attend to the college with the principal's approval). My background is German, but I don't really see myself doing anything with the language. I could speak with my grandparents, but realistically speaking they won't be here much longer. I could go to Germany, but I don't really have the desire to. As for Spanish, people say its any easy language to take, and comes in use. My question is: how is it useful? True, a lot of people around us speak it, but....I don't know.. The languae seems.... Kind of generic; like everyone takes it. Then theres French: a pretty language, but once again I don't really see myself taking it. At the college, there's Japanese.... Now, I don't have a drop of Japanese blood in me, but I find their modern culture kinda attractive. I like reading japanese comic books and watching their television shows... Here in America, I have to wait and buy licenced copies of it, but if I could speak Japanese I could buy it sooner and sometimes get things that never get translated. But, once again, this course is very hard, as it is a college course. Also, as much as I'd think it'd be 'cool' to learn a very "foreign" language, I don't know if I want to take it. I'm pretty satisfied with the manga and anime translated and distributed by America. Still, it'd be nice to not have to read subtitles and stuff.... So, could you please reccommend a language to me? Please include reasons and perhaps benefits from learning a particular language, or please give me reasons to not learn another language. Thanks! Edit: I can speak a very small amount of Japanese at the moment.
Where should I show my friends in Tokyo? I have been here too long to know what theyll like as tourists.? I've been in Japan for almost a year and Its been time well spent. I try new things whenever I get the chance and Ive been to all the sights at least 2 or 3 times so by now, I take a lot of things for granted. My friends are coming to Tokyo for 2 days. They have a week before hand in Kyoto and Osaka to get a feel for Japan in general and traditional stuff so I was thinking most of their time in Tokyo would be better enjoyed if they just enjoy the city as a city. One has spent a year in Japan before (Kyoto area) but has only spent a few hours in Tokyo and the other 2 just know some stuff about Japan from the 2 of us who have spent time here. I'm trying to look at it from a tourist point of view but its hard. We're all in our early-mid 20's and they are interested in everything they arent used to. I was thinking one day on the east side, Ginza, Akihabara and Asakusa, maybe food and drink in Ueno. Theyll get a bit traditional in Asakusa but not too much since Kyoto will probably be enough for them. They aren't nerds but Akihabara will probably be interesting to them. I'm wondering if Ueno and Ginza are a waste of time; I personally don't like Ueno at all but most of my friends who spent less time here do. Then the second day I was thinking that since Harajuku, Yoyogi park and Shibuya are so damn close we can hit all 3 in one stop and maybe see Meiji Jingu too. Then at night half the night in Shimokitazawa doing a food/drink marathon til the last train and then spend an hour seeing the sleazyness in Shinjuku (from the outside, we dont want to go in) and end the night at karaoke or izakaya. Is there anything essential I'm missing? I'm especially curious about the first day since I barely spend time out on that side of the city. What other kind of cool modernish or just downright fun sites would excite you as a tourist who knows a year old college Japanese and some stuff about the modern culture but not THAT much? Wheres a good place to take them in Ueno or Ginza (note: we are not rich)? Any suggestions?

Where can I get info on traveling to Japan? Okay so my best friend and I have wanted to go to Tokyo for years and now we might be going Spring Break...if we do it while she's still 18 we can get really good discounts on the flight because her stepdad works for delta airlines... So...plane tickets excluded, how much would it probably cost (American dollars) to stay in Japan for a week? Any cheap alternatives to hotels? Also what are some fun/inexpensive things to do there? (We're college students and love having fun, exploring new things, and Japanese culture from the ancient shrines to the modern Harajuku fashion scene) Any info or websites with info would be much appreciated!
Japanese Family Structures? My assignment question asks "Describe the structure of the family in your chosen culture, Outline the differences, If any, from the traditional family to the modern-day family in your chosen culture, Find a picture showing housing for families in your chosen culture" Any Help? Anything-
Is Naruto a good show? If it is a good show, tell me why in the world because I think its a terribly boring waste of time. I've nothing against Japanese culture, I just don't like the obnoxious characters and constant random stupid violence. Its like a modern Dragonball Z (Another massively stupid show) Is ANYONE supportive or nice at ALL in that show?
Americans and their heritage? With so much of marrying between people of a different heritage or culture, how do Americans decide what to embrace or follow? Wouldn't it now just seem more sensible to embrace traditions which intrigues you regardless of whether either spouse had them if it intrigues you or you felt comfortable with it? For example, I'm a Singaporean of mixed heritage (Chinese, Indonesian and Dutch) and wondering what I really identify with. The one heritage I've decided is most relevant to myself will be peranakan culture but through the generations so much of it has become so watered down, I'm merely just an admirer of the crafts and culinary skills of this group. However, I could well simply embrace Japanese culture which is so intriguing had I felt comfortable with it as I am not tightly connected with my own heritage. If I marry a modern American of mixed heritage, we'd be throwing many new elements into the equation. I've always wondered how others decide on what to keep or discard. I am confirmed Peranakan (straits born chinese - a mixed heritage) by bloodline but not been brought up that way.
What does he mean by "murderous and sublime" in this extract? The otaku, the passionate obsessive, the information age's embodiment of the connoisseur, more concerned with the accumulation of data than of objects, seems a natural crossover figure in today's interface of British and Japanese cultures. I see it in the eyes of the Portobello dealers, and in the eyes of the Japanese collectors: a perfectly calm train-spotter frenzy, murderous and sublime. Understanding otaku -hood, I think, is one of the keys to understanding the culture of the web. There is something profoundly post-national about it, extra-geographic. We are all curators, in the post-modern world, whether we want to be or not.
Is Philippines a Asian or an Western(Culturally) (Excluding Religional aspects).? I'm just curious of my country. It is ruled by Spanish for 300 years but we are belong to Malay race and Malays and Indonesians started the Philippine Civilization. Chinese are one of the first foreigners in the Philippines and they have been influencing our country for long time. Longer than Spanish did. And they make up the 1.5% of the entire Philippine population. And the Vegan and Vegetarian population in the Philippines are Mostly Chinese. My grandfather said that Chinese culture is the most dominant in our country second to Spanish, 3rd Indonesian and Malay, 4th Indian, and 5th Arabs. Other Asian foreigner are Indian which are influenced 25% of our language and 30% in Kapampangan dialect. Arabic introduced Islam in the country and my 5% of my country's population are Muslims. Japanese also influenced my country during 12th century AD but they influence expanded during the WW2. I didn't included American influence because they have modern culture.

Why is male chauvinism still acceptable in some cultures? I'm not a prejudiced person but I've observed in some ultra-orthodox/ultra-conservative cultures like the Hispanic, Japanese, Islamic, and conservative American cultures it seems to me they see men acting in a domineering way toward women as acceptable and normal. Being the modern, enlightened guy I am I'm always perplexed that some cultures view male-chauvinistic behaivor as acceptable, but I guess since I grew up in a pretty progressive area I never viewed women as inferior or believed it was their duty to serve men. Yet, it seems some cultures try to control womens' lives in every possible way and I just think that's wrong.
What cultures do you admire besides your own and why? For me it's the Irish and the Japanese. The Japanese because they demonstrate it's possible to have traditional moral and family values and manners, be healthy and eco-friendly...yet still be super modern. I think they're pretty moderate whereas the US is too left of center and the Middle East is too right of center. And the Irish because they're the friendliest people and I love their music and culture. The men are cute and gentlemen (when sober anyway lol), the women are beautiful, and the kids are adorable! I also think they're more morally grounded compared to the rest of the modern Western world. ***And yes I KNOW I'm generalizing and stereotyping but who cares***
Who are the Ainus of Japan? Is the opinion below valid? The most reliable proposition is Ainus are originally Caucasian people which originated from Okhotsk, Russia. The reason why recent DNA tests had found little traces of Caucasian ancestry is because massive racial assimilation and genocide of the Ainu by the Mongoloid people (which came to Japan much later than the Ainu) caused the Ainu race itself to be virtually extinct, resulting in no full-blooded Ainu to be in existence in this modern day and age. This explained why recent DNA tests revealed that the Ainu’s DNA consists of both Caucasoid and Mongoloid traits. In addition, the culture and language of the Ainu is a world of difference from the Jōmon, whereas it is to be noted that the Japanese literature is very similar in terms of characters with the Chinese language. According to archaeological sources, the oldest Mongoloid skull is about 7,000 years old in Asia whereas, the Ainu already inhabited Japan from about 17,000 years ago at least. emperors. Archaeological records also maintained that the first emperor of China, Shih Huang Ti, sent a fleet with 250 young men and 250 young ladies to Japan in search of the 'hero of longevity' called Reishi. Thus, it is highly probable that the Ainu lived in Japan long before the Mongoloid people came. Ainu culture dates from around 1200 CE and recent research suggests that it originated in a merger of the Okhotsk and Satsumon cultures. Full-blooded Ainu are mostly fair-skinned and fair haired, with the men generally having dense hair development which resemble the Caucasian man. In a study by Tajima et al. (2004), two out of a sample of sixteen (or 12.5%) Ainu men were found to belong to Haplogroup C3, which is the most common Y-chromosome haplogroup among the indigenous populations of the Russian Far East and Mongolia; Hammer et al. (2006) tested another sample of four Ainu men and found that one of them belonged to haplogroup C3. Some researchers have speculated that this minority of Haplogroup C3 carriers among the Ainu may reflect a certain degree of unidirectional genetic influence from the Nivkhs, a traditionally nomadic people of northern Sakhalin Island and the adjacent mainland, with whom the Ainu have long-standing cultural interactions. According to Tanaka et al. (2004), their mtDNA lineages mainly consist of haplogroup Y (21.6%) and haplogroup M7a (15.7%). Mitochondrial DNA haplogroup Y is otherwise found mainly among Nivkhs, as well as at lower frequency among Koreans, Mongols, Tungusic peoples, Koryaks, Itelmens, and Austronesians; haplogroup M7a, on the other hand, is found elsewhere almost exclusively among Japanese, Ryukyuans, and Koreans. A recent reevaluation of cranial traits suggests that the Ainu resemble the Okhotsk more than they do the Jōmon. This agrees with the reference to the Ainu culture being a merger of Okhotsk and Satsumon cultures referenced above. The Ainu language is significantly different from the Japanese language in its syntax, phonology, morphology, and vocabulary. Traditional Ainu culture was quite different from Japanese culture. There had also been recent suggestions that the various researchers whom denied the Caucasian Theory were Caucasians who are imbued with a false and insecure sense of supremacy.
What do those of you who believe that the media are injustice, think of this? I think reading this in 5-10 minutes would be better than listening to the news for a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope. This article has two parts: 1.Cultural and general info and music 2.political info.If you wanna get enlightened and shocked read it from top to bottom. Hi.I'm Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you. The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don't let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don't like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it's a kind of immitation, but still it's got an unique Iranian style. You'll see lots of beauty qeens on the streets that are just like models advertising fashionable clothes! Most part of their hair is out and they wear a lot of make up, also wearing scarves is a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics (which is bad for our economy)! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful.Everything's so great if you don't take unemployment, inflation and air pollution into account which I guess are common problems in many other countries. Many things have changed so far.I can't even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they've transformed everything. Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran! Women are overtaking Iran. They're treated very well. They're the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities cos they're so clever. They get the best jobs cos they can do jobs much better than men. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money according to the law which most husbands cannot afford, so they'll be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because in Iran such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing DJ / pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.I feel foolish for sitting here explaining ordinary things to you. Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourselves they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was ruled by those freaks (Taliban). When you think of such things, try to think of the racism in your country too.I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that 60% of Iranians are Persian and 30% are Turkish! I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media are very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I'm sure you don't know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. For instance this 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions and there are many many KIDS like that. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them? They just can't summerise everything in one word "nuclear", although we're proud of it cos having nuclear energy means a country is developed.Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and it was signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What did I find instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!"(The same old story!) The media are injustice. They put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they never talk about facts! Some interesting facts: Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams and holds records in loads of other things! It's one of the top countries in these fields: bio-technology and nono-technology.The 4th highest tower in the world (Milad tower) is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link).51 top universities out of the 100 top universities in the Mid-East are in Iran and they're among some of the top universities of the world as well. The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians and lots of Iranians win nobel prizes specially in medicine field. And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar =about 950 Tomans!) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? And also, Iran is an independant country unlike its neighbouring countries. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! The list is endless. The news this morning: "Iranian scintists managed to make human teeth to grow again after losing you've lost them using basic cells" I'm gonna intoduce you the international news website of Iran (called press TV) which is establlished recently. It's much better than BBC news and is fully in English, Plz vist it and you'll find out what they're hiding from you! and in the section of "Sic / Tech" you'll always see that Iran discovers news things nearly everyday. The address is: http://www.presstv.ir/news.aspx From now on, the truth will right by your side! Just a link from that website which reads: Iranian scientists have registered more than 4800 inventions during the last Iranian calendar year of 1385 just in one year 4800 inventions! (April 21 2006-April 20, 2007). Read more in: http://www.presstv.ir/sections.aspx?sectionid=3510208 Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working for themselve, lazy in doing their duty well!, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious (sadly majority of the young generation is not), not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable. Some people think, Iran's a desert! lol Iran is a modern country with breathtakingly beautiful nature and lots of historic places to visit. Please take a look at the following links to see if Iran looks like what you think or not! (You didn't expect it to be like that.Right?) This is a photo of Tehran: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Tehran-2-1600.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehran If you like you can visit these too, hundreds of pretty photos from the cities and nature: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hills_south_west_of_Sanandaj_near_the_village_of_Kilaneh.jpg http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=all http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=2 http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=3 http://www.bigsoccer.com:80/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=4 http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=3 http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=13 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran Some people think music is forbidden in Iran.Did you know that Iranian pop music was chose as the best pop music in France in 2005? I guess not.All Iranian songs are current pop /Club-Dance/Trance/ DJ music.I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all say they're some of the best songs they've ever heard. Here's a sample of the latest hits.(You didn't expect them to be so catchy.Right?) I believe in "Express yourself through music and that music is a universal language". You can just right click on the links below and choose "Save Target As" to download them. They're some of the best songs you've ever heard. It's nothing like what you expect! It's now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!! See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true. Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it for granted. First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? (Although what we want them is to not to get us into trouble by talking about things that are none of our concern.) We hate neither Jews nor Americans.I love Americans otherwise why would I talk to them?! How would our guys dream of America, be like them as much as possible and hate it at the same time?! Although ordinary Iranians don't care much about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?It's so funny the way you imagine things and make yourselves believe in your own immaginations! Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.On the contrary, meeting different people would be so interesting for us! I love the Japanese who come here! I wonder Iran is a threat to whom. Which logical rule admits that it's logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she's going to do something wrong?!!!! And they repeat the same "nuclear" tosh over and over and brain wash people! News headlines: "We won't allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons"!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No.Has it developed any nukes? No!That's what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is of no credit. It's just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This is a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic! Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all?You know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! He wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. Some say he's said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that's so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it's not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran's 69000000 population within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a mith. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim? They've made the whole world believe that Iran isn't a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like "300" . Anyone saying that it was not for political reasons is wrong. I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They're not responsible for controlling what the media say.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. This part is just for Americans who would still argue over unimportant things: Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America": 1.America means the U.S govt not the people 2.The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfreids/boyfriends! Strange.Isn't it? 3.Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake.right?) 5.The U.S gov't helped Seddam to attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians 6.America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason 7.It's always botherng Iran by sanctions, displaying false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away from Iran and is always harmful to our economy, development and credit 8.It's always despised the Iranians who travel to the U.S at their arrival (even ordinary ones, university students, sportsmen, scientists etc) To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days: 1.Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and almost a part of history and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be cheos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy.Aren't they? 2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and keeps denying that they're diplomats. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. It's exceeded the level of tit for tat. Isn't it better for both countries to forget about the past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? The two govts are like 10 year old children playing a game by harsh rhetoric. They don't care about hurting people's feeling. They just try to show that the people are enemies of each other to achieve their own goals. We as the people of these countries MUST NOT have any conflics. You know something? All govts are hateful.I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about 444 hostage taking and I keep being silent.I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think?I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! Would this happen in less than 2 years? You know what I mean! Remember that: The sea is deeper. You don't always have to see the surface of it. Plz whenever you have time, find and read an article about "ethnocentrism".Knowing the meaning of this term is not enough. After reading about it, you'll feel a noticable positive change in your attitude towards different people! Guaranteed! Thanks for your time.
